Mechanical Butterfly Valve

Mechanical butterfly valve is a valve that relies on manual operation to achieve fluid control. It consists of a valve body, a butterfly plate, a valve stem and an operating handle. The valve body is mostly made of cast iron, stainless steel or corrosion-resistant plastic, which is durable and can adapt to a variety of media. By rotating the handle to drive the valve stem, the butterfly plate rotates 0-90° around the axis in the valve body, thereby realizing the opening, closing or flow regulation of the valve. The valve has a compact structure, small installation space requirements, low fluid resistance, and good sealing performance. It is widely used in water supply and drainage, HVAC, food processing, chemical industry and other industries, and can reliably control the flow of media such as water, gas, and oil.

Product Features

Easy to operate: Equipped with an intuitive handle, without the need for complex tools, the operator can open, close and adjust the valve by simply rotating it, which is easy to get started.

Cost-effective: Compared with electric and pneumatic valves, mechanical butterfly valves have no drive device, simple structure, lower purchase and maintenance costs, and are suitable for projects with limited budgets.

High reliability: Pure mechanical structure design, no electronic components, not easily affected by electromagnetic interference or circuit failure, and can operate stably in harsh environments.

Flexible installation: Small size, low installation space requirements, can be installed horizontally or vertically, and can be adapted to a variety of pipeline connection methods, with strong versatility.

work principle of mechanical butterfly valve

Manual rotation

The handle is directly connected to the valve stem. Turning the handle drives the butterfly plate to rotate around the central axis, fully open in parallel, fully closed vertically, and adjust the flow at different angles.

Lever force enhancement

By extending the handle or lever structure, the lever principle is used to increase the torque, reduce the operating force, and facilitate the opening and closing of large-diameter valves.

Worm gear transmission

The handle drives the worm gear, which is decelerated and increased, and then transmitted to the valve stem to achieve accurate and stable adjustment of the butterfly plate angle.

Spring-assisted reset

The built-in spring pushes the butterfly plate to reset after the handle operating force is removed, ensuring tight closure and leakage prevention.

FAQ

1. What is the maximum working pressure that a mechanical butterfly valve can withstand?
The working pressure of a conventional mechanical butterfly valve is between 0.6-1.6MPa, and a specially designed high-pressure mechanical butterfly valve can withstand 2.5MPa or even higher pressure, which needs to be determined according to the product model and specifications.

2. What is the applicable temperature range of the valve?
The applicable temperature of valve bodies of different materials is different. Cast iron valve bodies are generally suitable for -10℃-80℃; stainless steel valve bodies can work in the range of -40℃-200℃; the applicable temperature of plastic valve bodies is usually 0℃-60℃, and the actual working conditions should be selected when purchasing.

3. How to ensure the sealing performance of the mechanical butterfly valve?
The edge of the butterfly plate is coated with high-quality rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene and other sealing materials or set on the valve seat. When the butterfly plate is closed, it fits tightly with the valve seat to form a sealing surface. At the same time, the precise processing technology ensures the matching accuracy of the butterfly plate and the valve seat, effectively preventing medium leakage.

4. Is it difficult to operate a large-caliber mechanical butterfly valve?
Large-caliber mechanical butterfly valves usually use worm gear transmission devices or lever force-enhancing structures, which can greatly reduce the operating torque. Even if the diameter is large, the operator can easily complete the operation.

5. How often do mechanical butterfly valves need to be maintained?
Under normal use, it is recommended to check the valve once every six months to check whether the seals are aged and whether the handles and transmission parts are loose. If the working environment is harsh or the use is frequent, the inspection can be shortened to once a quarter, and the worn parts can be replaced in time to ensure the normal operation of the valve.
